Review- Bubba Ho-tep

I loved this movie before i even saw it. Now i realise that this can be very bad and usually means that your going to be let down ( shake my fist in the air yelling bad words into the air- "Star Wars episodes 1 &2"). But i don't know how anyone could not get a little excited if they read the synopsis for this film. The one i read was the one from the Birch site which went like this "A bizarre horror comedy in which an aging Elvis Presley and JFK do battle with a recently resurrected Egyptian mummy who is killing off the residents of a rest home!". Now if anyone doesn't find this a little exciteing you should just stop reading this blog cause this kind of stuff is my bread and butter.

Now i think the synopsis above gives you just enough info to make you want to go. But there is some other things that make the deal just a little sweeter. The aging Elvis they speak of is play by the legend horror actor Bruce Campbell, famous for his role as Ash from the Evil Dead series. Campbell's performance may be one of his best. The best thing about it is that you hardly even know its him under the trademark Elvis chin and sideburns. The best thing is that you never doubt that it isn't elvis. The major performer in this film is Ossie Davis, who plays guy who thinks he is JFK. Now i think Ossie tells it better but to let the people who don't know Ossie Davis is black, so you imagine the story is very left field.

The thing i love about this film is it never takes itself to seriously but never gets corney. This film has all the making of a true cult classic. This could well be the film to stand quite nicely next to Evil Dead for Campbell, you can almost guarantee that it will. I will anyone that loves origianl films that break the mold just enough to be special and great to see this film as fast as possible.
