The Brothers Grimm

The Brothers Grimm is sadly boring. This film came out a fair while ago in the US so i had read some reviews and i must say that none of them were very good but with Terry Gilliam as the director it is law that i have to give it ago. Terry Gilliam has let me down maybe never, i love the monty python stuff , Brazil, Fear and Loathing and even thought 12 monkeys was pretty cool but The Brother Grimm just seems to lack the magis that all those other films have. The main problems are the story which is a little weak and just doesn't set up the back story of the Grimms well enough. Also adding to that poor story the casting in this film was horrible, Matt damon and Heath Ledger don't have any chemistry and they have these stupid accents whch get worse as the films goes on. It's not all bad, the film has the sets and the comedy that is trademark Gilliam all the way through. All in all the problems with this film just weigh it down too much.

So very sadly i give this...

THE MAGIC IS COMING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Wow this is one of the best movies i have seen all year. Writer and director Shane Black hit the nail on the head with this little beauty. You have to be excited about a Shane Black story cause they don't come along very offten but when they do they are always so very very good. The story is the best thing about this film, it took me a couple of days to work out what made it so good but when i did it was so clear. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is like a really long episode of one of my favourite shows Arrested Development. Val Kilmer and Robert Downney JR. also give performances worthy of this film. For a first time director Mr Black made this film really really well. My favourite bit was the pace he kept up during the film, there just wasn't a dull moment.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride

This year has been so very good in the animation films department and even though there was no Pixar film. You had the Japanese masters having another crack at it and even a first time out for everyones favourites Wallace and Gromit. Also this year Tim Burton had another crack at the animation gig and by gosh is he on fire this year. Corpse Bride is a freaky story that ONLY Tim Burton would tell a child. This movie all the makings of a very fine animation with brilliant voice acting especialy Christopher Lee as the evil Pastor Galswells who was so very very good when is was doing the wedding rehearsal. This movie was quite good and worth the trip to the cinema.

Corpse Bride gets my...

The Warriors

A few weeks ago i picked up the new Rockstar game called The Warriors, which was based on the 1979 movie by the same name. Last week i picked up the new ultimate director's cut of the film which i think was re-released because of the game coming out. The Warriors is about a gang in New York who get stuck along way from home when they are falsely accused for shooting another gang leader who is trying to bring all the gangs in the city together, so they can rule the streets. The rest of the film is about The Warriors trying to get home, along the way the run into a few different gangs who are trying to bring them down.

This movie has it all! There are just so many gangs hanging around the streets, some of my favourites are The Lizzies, the all girl gang and the Hi-Hats, the gang where all the members paint there face to look like mimes. the gangs just don't hang around looking pretty either, they are all about rumbling and rumbling hard.

This version of the film is probably better then any other version to be released. I can't believe that it took me so long to see this film. The gangs the fights and the comic book feel of the film makes this a must see, a film that was made way before it's time!!

Elizabethtown

I just want to say that i went into this film with my heart open and ready to fall in love with everything Cameron Crowe was ready to throw at me. Two very long hours later all i had in my heart was anger and hate. I must admit that it wasn't that bad straight after the movie but the more i talked about it the more i hated it.

They main reason i loathed this film was that it just seemed a sub par rip off of a movie that came out last year called Garden State. Now it was pretty much the same story, which i dont have a problem cause i know that there isn't a million different stories out there and you can have the same story as long as you tell it in your own way. The problem with Craptown (by the way thats what im calling Elizabetown) was that the whole thing seems like sub-par mirror image of Garden State. There was lots of bit in the film that just seem to close to Garden State to make this film feel original.

The other thing i hated was Orlando Bloom. Now i know hate is a strong word and i did like him as a Elf in Lord of the Rings, however in a drama he falls way short of being able to hold up a whole film by himself. The main problem was that he seemed to have know emotion in his face. I couldnt tell if he was happy or sad or what it was very hard to watch him in this film.

The problems with this film is too much of a heavy burrden for this film. Weak story that didn't seem to go anywhere and bad acting like you've never seen before. I have to say that Elizabethtown deserves its...
