This week at the movies!

Now it's been a week since the GREATEST of Star Wars hit the cinema but i believe that any movie coming out in the next couple of weeks will be smashed. Anyway this week at the movie sees some really crap-taular films.

First movie off the rank is a movie with Samuel L Jackson in it, it is Coach Cater. Now from the out set i'm well aware that this is most likely one of those underdog movies where the team is crap and then by the end wins some big event, oh and discovers that they have the abilty to love or beat any situation. However how can you not kinda want to see any movie with Samuel L Jackson in it. Do you really think Shaft would have gotten made if Jackson wasn't around?? I don't think so!!!!

The other movie that is coming out this week is a movie that i dont want to see at all!! The Wedding Date looks like one of those films that you know is going to suck, real bad! Debra Messing found a good thing when she started Will & Grace but you would think that she has made enough money not to do this sort of crap. Well all i can say is i wouldn't head to this flick if i was you!

On another note there is one more movie coming out this week but only in selected cinemas. The movie i speak of is a film called 2046. It was on a couple of times on last weekend and i went to see it. This was BADD! i can't really stress this enough. STAY AWAY!!!

12 Crazy Hours

What a crazy day it was!!! With only 12 hours before i saw the midnight session of Revenge of the Sith i decided to take some pictures to show my spiral into my "need" to see this movie. So don't scroll down if your not ready to see the dark side take another hero!!!

With 12 hours till the screening i was getting excited but i thought i better stop and take a moment to reflect on some of the other things going on in the world.

12 Hours to go

With one lot of work done i had to find a way to get through the next and i think i was slipping into one crazy state of mind. I don't think pretending to be at Cannes Film Festival Premiere. I think mum thought i was losing it, having conversations with myself. They were going something like this:

Me: Hey George, Nice party!! Nat... OMG love the hair!!!
Nat: Hey thanks!
Me: No worries, Anakin pity about the dark side.
Me: See you inside guys!

6 Hours to go

6 Hours to go

With 3 hours left and a need to do something crafty i did what any fan would do!!! I made Star Wars inspired masked.

First was of course was Yoda:

3 Hours to go

Then Darth Vadar:

3 Hours to go

The thing that pushed me over the edge was with one and a half hours to go i was waiting to go to the cinema and i decided to have a tea party.

Tea party to end all tea parties

Im just glad this is all over and i have seen the film. Viva La Star Wars!!!!

George: So Chris i hear you like the movie! I guess we will see you hear for Episode 7?

Review: Star Wars Revenge of the Sith

I thought i would just post this quick review of Revenge of the Sith, i think i need to see it again to fully take in what i saw last night. Last night was crazy, i was full of expection and that can never be a good thing, i think expection has ruined the last two movies. This time however George came though.

I didn't think i would come out loving it as much as i did, even the small problems with some of the script and what not i still was in love with ti and wanted to go see it again straight away. Anyway i will write some more of my thoughts later in the week when i get around to seeing it again. I will also be posting my crazy 12 hours before i saw Star Wars ( by the time it started i had gone coo-coo).

2 Days till Star Wars

54 hours, baby!!!!! I was trying to stay calm into the run up to Star Wars cause i have been burned the last two times i got to the cinema and saw Episodes 1 & 2. I am sad to say that i didn't even get close to staying calm, the thing that broke me was the teaser trailer. The teaser for Revenge of the Sith was one of the best trailers i have ever seen. It took me back to some old school Star Wars but also showed what was to come.

Go watch and get excited!!!!

3 Days till Star Wars

Now there is only 75 hours left till the start of the midnight screening that i am going to. I am getting very excited, it hink the main reason for this is that i have found a countdown clock for my computer and it is set for Star Wars. Every time i see it i get a little more excited. Today i just want to talk about the recnetly released DVDs of the original Star Wars.

These DVDs have been on the wishlist of nearly anyone that has owned a DVD player. I can't think of any other movies that people would want on DVD then the origianl Star Wars. I think there is a lot of fans that have wanted to see behind the scenes and commentaries of these movies more then any other. With the release they got what they wanted, there was the origianl movies with the special edition parts (you can't always have the origianls) and you also got a whole other dics of special features and documentaries. This is a must for any fan!!

4 Days Till Star Wars

Well it is certainly is getting very close but the thing about Star Wars fans is that they haven't really ever had to go without. The movies have taken 30 odd years to be released but there has been a lot of books based on the Star Wars universe. Star Wars books is numbe 4 on my list. The books that have been covering the Star Wars universe have got a lot of people through when they thought there wouldn't be another movie after Return of the Jedi ( and maybe even after some fans saw The Phantom Menace).

The best things about the books is that it makes it possible to expand the Star Wars universe. It kind of makes it a little like Star Trek and the way the TV show has always bought a new spin on that universe. I haven't really had that much to do with the Star Wars books but i have read a couple and they were excellent. One of the ones i read was a a story that had none of the usual suspects. The focus was on a whole other group of Jedis fighting against the Sith. With peoples imagination the only limit i think we can all be blessed with stories from the Star Wars universe for quite some time.

5 Days Till Star Wars!

Oh my god, i can't believe that it is only 5 days till Star Wars. There is so much to look forward too in the next week. Today i thought i would look at another Star Wars toy, a few days ago i mentioned the Lego Star Wars video game but i think i must take time out to look at the major infulence of the video game.

The Star Wars Lego sets are simply amazing. The way Lego manages to capture the feel of all the movie is why they have been making some of the best toys around for many years. Some of my favourite pieces are the Darth Vadar transformation, cause who wounldn't want to build a Lego set where you get to change Anakin into the Dark Lord. Another favourite is the Ultimate Lightsaber Duel, where you get to control either Obi-Wan or Anakin in a Lego fight to the death over the burning pits of lava. Who will win? Now you can decide.

Anyway check out the website it's pretty neat. Also look out for the flash movie, Star Wars Revenge of the Brick!

6 Days Till Star Wars

Well i don't believe that i am less then a week away from Star Wars. Today i want to point out one of the coolest Star Wars toys i have ever seen. Actually scratch that one of the coolest toys i have ever seen. The Darth Vadar mask with voice changer. What more could you want from a toy? It makes you look like one of the best villans in movie history, and it makes you sound like him. Couple that with a toy lightsaber and maybe a black cape, i would say you might have the best midnight screening costume ever. That gives me an idea? This is fair warning to all that are coming to see Star Wars with me!!!!

This week at the movies!

This is my first "This week at the movies". I thought it would be a good idea to go through what films are hitting the screens around Australia. Well i won't keep you any longer.

First this week is Crash, which a movie that takes place over 36 hours in Los Angeles. During the movie the lives of various people intersect, with a theme of racial relations and prejudic. I am very excited about this movie it looks quite good.

Next is Boogeyman which is another one of those scary films to go along with the current crop of rather boring movies that just seem to be coming more and more offten. I dont think i will be seeing this but heres hoping that someone will step up to the plate soon and make a really creepy movie cause lord know we need one.

Last of the movies coming out this week is The Upside of Anger. Now i was going to try and write something for this but i dont like Kevin Costner, so i am just going to steal a blurb from the Greater Union website.

When her husband suddenly leaves her, a middle-aged housewife has to deal with her four teenage daughters. She turns to booze to drown her sorrows and finds a drinking companion in a neighbour who also becomes her lover.

So there you have it the new movies for this week. There isn't much but sometimes you have to go without when you know something special is around the corner. Next week is going to be one big movie day!!

7 Days Till Star Wars

There is only one week left till i see the last new Star Wars movie in my life. I am getting more and more excited every day. I thought i would list some of my favourite things that the Star Wars movies have spawned. So on with the list-

Number 7 on my list is only something that i have been playing for a couple of days. The other day My Brother and i bought Lego Star Wars The Video Game for the Xbox. It is one of the coolest things i have ever scene using the Star Wars name. The game covers Episodes 1, 2 and 3, using nothing but lego pieces. It takes playing with Lego to a whole new level, i remember when i was little and i use to play with my Lego and make planes and fly them through air like i was in the pilot seat. Now with Lego Star Wars you can play as your favourite character, wield a lightsaber, blast your way though the droid army and even shock some people with a R2-D2. When your character takes to many hits instead of dying your character just falls apart. This game has all the Star Wars you could ever need. You can even use the force!!!!

Rave: Matthew Vaughn interview

The other day on my daily rounds of the internet i ran across a interesting interview with Matthew Vaughn on CHUD.com. Now usually i wounldn't even stop cause he hasn't really done anything that interested me, but the power at be decided a little while ago that Matthew Vaughn was to direct the third X-men movie. With Brian Singer off directing the new Superman movie the next director of the X-men series was quite a hot topic, when everyone heard that Mr Vaughn had been choosen i think there was a lot of skeptical people, me included.

Although the interview has a lot of info about Matthew Vaughn's movie that is about to hit the cinema called Layer Cake, but there is a lot of good stuff about the new X-men movie. After reading interview i feel confident that he will do a great job on the new movie. During the whole interview he seems very cool and i like that in a person. Anyway click the link above and read away it is very good.

Review: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

A few years ago was the first time i had anything to do with Douglas Adams and his craziness. The first few pages of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was something that i will cherish forever, for some reason they spoke to me. I guess it isn't that wierd seeing as there is so many people that love the books, games, tv shows or the original radio shows. When i heard about the film i guessed that there was always going to be one cause the concept has been translated to so many forms that a movie was a logical step. After all the talk and and rumors the first trailer was simply fantasic and i just couldn't contain myself and confessed that this movie might be one of the most important films i see this year, so i cut myself off from any material pertaining to the film so not to ruin it. When i saw it the other day i left with strange mixed feelings.

There were lots of good things in this movie, it had a lot going for it. The most important thing that gave me a reason to get excited about this movie was that the origianl screenplay was written by Douglas Adams, but the studios never really got behind the way he told his story and then he passed away and the whole thing was put on the backburner. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy the movie was always going to get made i think so when things got moving again there was only a small change in the script, they just had to make it a little more hollywood but the story was still Douglas Adams. There were good things in this movie but having Douglas Adams write the main part of the script was THE most important.

With the script under control the casting was the next most important thing. With the casting i must say they did a perfect job. Now speaking of perfect, the casting of Mos Def as Ford Perfect, which was a major gamble and it paid off in bucket loads. During the whole movie Mos Def played his part in the film just as i would have imagined. The other players in the film also were very well cast. Sam Rockwell as Zaphod Beeblebrox was also great, by the end i nearly couldn't stand to hear him open his mouth his ego had gotten theat big but that was just how i wanted it. Every one i this film did a great job of bringing these much loved characters to life.

Another facet of the movie that was done well was the special effects or sometimes lack of. I was expecting a lot of effects in this movie for the main villians Vogons, but i was glad to see that they and many of the other creatures in the movie were puppets and they were simply brilliant. I love people in suits, they give a whole new level to the characters that all CG characters still dont fully have. The other top notch part of the film was the animation for the Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy. it was great. The animation was done by the people that work with Juinor Senior. The Animation is reason enough in itself to go see this movie. I think the strongest point fopr this fil was the special effects. They were everything that you would expect and even some more with the excellent animation work.

The film wasn't all good, it had things that let the whole movie down. The bad points in this movie were really bad and just made this film worth seeing as a bit of fun and not a worthy badge to go with the other spin offs from the original radio series. Although the script did have touches of Douglas Adams, it was force feed a love story by hollywood, it makes me so angry thinging about it now. On top of the forced love story the story lacked detail the books cover so well in print, it's not that it was a bad way to tell the story, it just made it hard for people that have no idea about what was going on a little more confused. It was very sad that a lot of the one liners didn't work and that the love story was smashed into the script, but this really did bring this movie down.

On a whole i would go back for a second view of this movie because there were some parts that just spoke to me as a fan of the books. Unfortunately i will have to sit through the painful love story in the script but i is worth it to see the visual that are created by Hammer and Tongs the team behind the movie. I don't hold on to the hope that they will make the next one and even if they do i don't hold a hope they will be able to make it good!
