What to watch??

What to watch has been a question i have been asking since the US rating season ended in May. I haven't really had anything to watch cause most of the shows i would have watched i have already seen. I'm glad to say that there has been some shining lights and im want to share them with you so if you get a chance you will know to watch.

Extras- This is the follow up for Stephen Merchant & Ricky Gervais who worte The Office. Now i was excited about this no matter if it lived up to The Office or not. I think these guys are great and had no fear going into watching the first episode. When i fired up the first episode i was not let down in any way, actually during the series i was laughing so hard that i think i started to cry. Extras is about Andy Millman (Ricky Gervais) trying to become a real actor but all the work he gets is extra work. This is a must!!

Little Britain- Now this is a old series but is very new to me. I only really heard good things about this series but had never done anything about it but the other day after watching the last episode of Extras i decided that i needed another fix of Brithish comedy so i went and bought the DVD. Now Little Britain is a sketch comedy show that is written by Matt Lucas and David Williams, who not only wrote but also star in most of the sketches. Now this is funny stuff, some of the characters in the series are Daffyd Thomas who cliams to be the only gay in his village, a juvenile delinquent Vicky Pollard, Lou who is a helper for a wheelchair- bound friend Andy and many more. I dont want to give any more away cause its just so very good. go get it!!!

Weeds- My brother turned me on to this one. This is on Showtime in the states and it is very good. Showtime seem to be on a winning streak much like HBO a few years ago. Weeds is about a widow who is selling weed in the suburbs to maintain her and her two children lifestyle. The 3 episodes i have seen were great, they covered eveything from a mother putting laxative in her daughters chocolate to teach her a lesson, selling weed at the weekend soccer match and even a neighbour haveing a gay toyboy. This show has big potential and i hope just gets better.

Go forth and lounge in front of your TVs and laptops!! Happy viewing! Bring on September!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was one of the first books that I read by choice, so I have very fond memories of the story and the book. I also have watched and enjoyed the 1971 musical version of the book. When i first heard that Tim Burton wanted to remake this flim i have to admit i wasn't that excited about the prospect. But as the news and trailers start to come out i was suckered in so so bad. Every little drop of information made me want to see it more, the second trailer was where everything started to fall into place, with Depp, the kids and the overall feel of the film.

I think the best part of this movie was how Johhny Depp played his Willy Wonka. This wasn't the performance that i fully expected. Depp rearly ever plays second fiddle to anyone, this is for good reason but in this it was called for and he delivered. Depp's Wonka was a misguided child that had become a misguided adult. The voice, the mannerism everything was just spot on. The real star of this film was Freddie Highmore and his performance as Charlie. Like the movie name suggests it was important to fall for Charlie and believe in everything that he did. Feddie Highmore did a perfect job, and through the whole thing i went one the emotional rollacoster that Charlie went on. At the start i was on the edge of my seat every time Charlie opened a chocolate bar to find a golden ticket. Not only was the acting top notch but Burton touch was all over everything else.

As usual with all of Tim Burton's films the visuals for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were so amazing that sometimes i just get caught looking at the background and not watching the movie. The start of the film was much the same as thr 1971, it was dark streets and a giant chocolate factory towering over the small streets. The Buckets house was so fantasic, it was all by it's self in the middle of this part of town that had nothing in it but there house, that had holes in the roof and a stove that was used to cook there stable diet of cabbage soup. From the moment the 5 kids step into the factory, nothing prepares you for what you get to see. Every set gets better and better as the films goes on. You can't not love everything Tim Burton does visually.

Tim Burton's visuals were made for the adaption of this film. Everything from the Oompa Loompas that have all the same face to the great glass elavator there isn't much that was left out of the book. The songs, the music and even the extra backstory that was added was very tight. I like this movie a lot, Burton has once again knocked one out of the park.

Millions

Um welcome to my first movie review, fot this new blog of mine. The first movie of the rank is a movie called Millions. It is based on a childrens novel about two boys who find a bag full of money, then they struggle against each other trying to figure what to do with the money, seeing as they only have one week before the money worthless in the change over to the Euro. One wants to spend up big and the other wants to use the money to help the masses.

So from the look of it you might think " Who would be bothered going to see this movie?" or "Why is a 22 year old going to see a kids movie?". Well both are very good questions! Everyone should go see this movie, from 8 to 80. The story for this movie is very strong with no real points where you have to wonder what the hell is going on, unlike some movies *cough* Land of the Dead *cough*. The strong story is backed up well by some really really good performances. The best is from the main character, the young Alexander Nathan Etel as Damian. He has great timing in some of the fun bits and you really feel for him in some of the sad bits. One of the best is when he is standing in the cosmetic section of a store waiting for his Dad's (James Nesbitt) girlfriend (Daisy Donovan). The whole movie just sparkled, this is a big family DVD movie.

One of the reasons i was so excited about seeing this movie was because of the dirctor Danny Boyle. He is famous for his work on directing Trainspotting, 28 Days Later and also the bomb that was The Beach. So i was very interested to see what he could do with a childrens story. I think he did a great job on this movie, i also like the parts where there was a need for a little darkness and scariness and he didnt back off but also didnt take it to far. I am very glad that my first new film review is a big BIG-

THUMBS UP!

A new start...

I'm taken the old saying "Change is as good as a hoilday" to heart. I have decided after a few weekends of such good movies to restart my blog in a effort to help me remember what the hell i go and see every weekend!!

Thumbs is a new start and a new start need a few new rules. I not the biggest fan of giving out scores to moives but this Thimbs system (of either up or down) gives you just a quick guide if you can't understand what the fuck i have been going on about! Also i said movies before but i think from time to time the odd DVD, video game or TV show review might just pop up.

Im very excited about starting again cause i like the fact that someone might just stumble on to this and a review of MINE might just infulence what movie they see that weekend. Anyways look out soon for a review, i have a lot of DVD coming that i shouldn't have bought and i tend to see a lot of movieso one is bound to pop up!!!
