20 of the Best and 10 of the Worst

I have never seen as many movies as I have this year and i must say i have nearly loved every minute. There is nothing more in this whole world that i love more then going to the cinema. Even if the movie ends up stinking i always tend to have fun so to mark this year i have made my very first list of my favourite 10 movies but when i got to the end it finished up as 20. I also put together the 10 movies which i wish i hadn't seen. The list starts here...

1. King Kong : All the reviews of this films has proved that this isn't the perfect film but when you sit down to watch it there is so much love and care put into this that it feels different to watching other movies. Also BEST FIGHT EVER!

2. Wolf Creek: What a year for Australian film. I saw this and loved every minute, the voilence is over top and the performance of John Jarrett is great. I hope there is more to come.

3. Batman Begins: To say the Batman series went down hill is an understatement. Thank christ for Chris Nolan, this dark and slick film.

4. Kung-Fu Hussle: Stephen Chow is one hell of a film maker and he just keeps getting better and this was one of the best films this year.

5. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang; What a fucking script. This moive never stops from the start to finish. Shane Black is back and i hope he stays around for a long time.

6. Sin City: Noir film has never been so cool!!!

7. Howls Moving Castle: How the fuck does Hayao Miyazaki keeps doing it?

8. A Very Long Engagement: A very beautiful film with the very beautiful Audrey Tautou in the lead.

9. Old Boy: This revenge is hardcore cool.

10: 40 Year Old Virgin: I never laughed so much.

the rest..

11. Bubba Ho-Tep
12. Layer Cake
13. Serenity
14. Sahara
15. Millions
16. The Proposition
17. Corpse Bride
18. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
19. Land of the Dead
20. Star Wars Episode 3

Now for the worst...

1. 2046 and Elizabethtown equal worst films of the year.
3. Elektra
4. The Brother Grimm
5. Fantastic Four
6. Mr andMrs Smith

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

The new Harry Potter is evything I could want from a adaption of my favourite book of the Harry Potter series. The best thing about the movie was the willingness from new director Mike Newell to add new scenes and make existing parts fit into a movie instead of just trying to recreate the book. One of the new scene in the movie that isn't in the book is one of my favourite in the whole film, it is when the kids are studying and are talking instead of working and Snape is forced to hit them on the back of the head to keep them quite, it is truely very funny. Thats another thing about the film that i wasn't expecting, even with the darkness of the story writer Steven Kloves turns out his funniest Haryy Potter script. The movie doesn't go 10 minutes without making you laugh. Four movies in and the kids have grown up a lot and you would think if they don't hurry up they might have to change them for the last film but if TV can make a generation of kids believe that the kids in Dawson's Creek were high scholol age then anything is possible. Apart from there age they are doing a great job with only Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) letting the team down a little bit with her over acting but she is only 15. The other teachers are of course fantastic casting with new chacter Mad Eye Moody a stand out. The new teacher with his mad eye is more then i could ever want from a live action Mad Eye. Its crap that Mike Newell isn't staying for another because he did such a fine job and this next section is tough cause the books are longer and for me not as good as the first lot and need all the continuity they can muster. It will be interesting what the next movie will be like but in the mean time i can enjoy what i have now...

The best Harry Potter yet, i have to give that a

The Brothers Grimm

The Brothers Grimm is sadly boring. This film came out a fair while ago in the US so i had read some reviews and i must say that none of them were very good but with Terry Gilliam as the director it is law that i have to give it ago. Terry Gilliam has let me down maybe never, i love the monty python stuff , Brazil, Fear and Loathing and even thought 12 monkeys was pretty cool but The Brother Grimm just seems to lack the magis that all those other films have. The main problems are the story which is a little weak and just doesn't set up the back story of the Grimms well enough. Also adding to that poor story the casting in this film was horrible, Matt damon and Heath Ledger don't have any chemistry and they have these stupid accents whch get worse as the films goes on. It's not all bad, the film has the sets and the comedy that is trademark Gilliam all the way through. All in all the problems with this film just weigh it down too much.

So very sadly i give this...

Veronica Mars

I have just got through episodes 6 and 7 and i am very glad to see that

THE MAGIC IS COMING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Wow this is one of the best movies i have seen all year. Writer and director Shane Black hit the nail on the head with this little beauty. You have to be excited about a Shane Black story cause they don't come along very offten but when they do they are always so very very good. The story is the best thing about this film, it took me a couple of days to work out what made it so good but when i did it was so clear. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is like a really long episode of one of my favourite shows Arrested Development. Val Kilmer and Robert Downney JR. also give performances worthy of this film. For a first time director Mr Black made this film really really well. My favourite bit was the pace he kept up during the film, there just wasn't a dull moment.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a...

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride

This year has been so very good in the animation films department and even though there was no Pixar film. You had the Japanese masters having another crack at it and even a first time out for everyones favourites Wallace and Gromit. Also this year Tim Burton had another crack at the animation gig and by gosh is he on fire this year. Corpse Bride is a freaky story that ONLY Tim Burton would tell a child. This movie all the makings of a very fine animation with brilliant voice acting especialy Christopher Lee as the evil Pastor Galswells who was so very very good when is was doing the wedding rehearsal. This movie was quite good and worth the trip to the cinema.

Corpse Bride gets my...

The Warriors

A few weeks ago i picked up the new Rockstar game called The Warriors, which was based on the 1979 movie by the same name. Last week i picked up the new ultimate director's cut of the film which i think was re-released because of the game coming out. The Warriors is about a gang in New York who get stuck along way from home when they are falsely accused for shooting another gang leader who is trying to bring all the gangs in the city together, so they can rule the streets. The rest of the film is about The Warriors trying to get home, along the way the run into a few different gangs who are trying to bring them down.

This movie has it all! There are just so many gangs hanging around the streets, some of my favourites are The Lizzies, the all girl gang and the Hi-Hats, the gang where all the members paint there face to look like mimes. the gangs just don't hang around looking pretty either, they are all about rumbling and rumbling hard.

This version of the film is probably better then any other version to be released. I can't believe that it took me so long to see this film. The gangs the fights and the comic book feel of the film makes this a must see, a film that was made way before it's time!!

Elizabethtown

I just want to say that i went into this film with my heart open and ready to fall in love with everything Cameron Crowe was ready to throw at me. Two very long hours later all i had in my heart was anger and hate. I must admit that it wasn't that bad straight after the movie but the more i talked about it the more i hated it.

They main reason i loathed this film was that it just seemed a sub par rip off of a movie that came out last year called Garden State. Now it was pretty much the same story, which i dont have a problem cause i know that there isn't a million different stories out there and you can have the same story as long as you tell it in your own way. The problem with Craptown (by the way thats what im calling Elizabetown) was that the whole thing seems like sub-par mirror image of Garden State. There was lots of bit in the film that just seem to close to Garden State to make this film feel original.

The other thing i hated was Orlando Bloom. Now i know hate is a strong word and i did like him as a Elf in Lord of the Rings, however in a drama he falls way short of being able to hold up a whole film by himself. The main problem was that he seemed to have know emotion in his face. I couldnt tell if he was happy or sad or what it was very hard to watch him in this film.

The problems with this film is too much of a heavy burrden for this film. Weak story that didn't seem to go anywhere and bad acting like you've never seen before. I have to say that Elizabethtown deserves its...

New Season TV

Only a few weeks ago the new season of Tv started in the USA and i just couldn't be happier. Last season there was so many high points that at the start of this new season i have had my doubts about some shows. So now we are a couple of weeks into the new season i thoought i would do a start of season report card. So on with the show:

Lost- The new season of Lost has started very strong with a lot of new story lines that all seem to me to have a lot of potential. I really lke what is going on with the hatch and the other secret which i guess i shouldnt give away is also shaping up very nicely. All the characters are just as intense as they were last year and Kate is also still very very hot( i like watching her wiggle to get her arms free).
Grade: A-

Gilmore Girls- This show was a late comer last year as i didnt start watching it till after it had finished on tv but let me say now if i hadn't watched it i would want to take a leap of a building. The 5th season of the gilmore girls was maybe the best show last year. So this year they had a lot to live up to. Let me just say that the new season has all the magic of last season with potential of even more.
Grade: A+

The Simpsons- Not much to say here except that there is a lot more of the same. The same not being a bad thing but not the heights the Simpsons know. The second episode has a very very good start which is worth noting.
Grade: B-

The OC- I thought last year was very poor considering how good the first was. The second season had its moments but i think i got a little big for itself and had a lot of episodes where the whole thing was just a big moral lesson that effected every character by the end of the episode, which is a little 7th Heaven. This new season on the other hand is getting back to the drama which is where the show works best cause this is the Bold and the beautiful for people under 30.
Grade- B+

Veronica Mars- During the off season the were talks that UPN wanted to change the show by adding some more character and change some other things . The first three episodes this year have been a little slow. The writing is still sharp and i going to keep the faith.
Grade-C

Arrested Development- I CANT BELIEVE THAT THIS SHOW NEARLY GOT CANCELLED!!!!! What the fuck do they have to do!! They have two emmys for writing and the cast is just getting better. To say the least this season is just as good as the other two. Also the third episode has the funniest joke this year.
Grade- A+

iPod Nano

Now i have been playing with my new iPod for nearly a week now and all i have to say is.... unfuckenbelieveable!!!! Again for the i dont know how many times Apple blew me away with how small they can make things, but the Nano just took it too the next level. The Nano is small and thin, really small and really thin, you just can't get a grip on the size till you have had one in your hands. I truly think i have found my perfect iPod. ( nah just till the next one)

The Good
-the size
- the blackness of it
- colour screen
- all the new features ie, world clock, vault
- flash memory so now i can drop it
- the touch wheel texture

The Bad
- all the nice colours are gone
- doesn't work with Firewire

Oh apple you've done it again!!!!!

Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Ware Rabbit

I have been thinking what the hell has taken so long for a Wallace & Gromit movie to be made. Its like Aardman went and did every project they could think of before they took there very famous characters out. After getting out of the film i can say that it was worth every second of waiting.

The main problem with the movie i had was that the start was slow as paint drying. I was getting worried that the story really had nowhere to go but suddenly they started pulling out all the stops which i should have fully expected from before i even went in. I think in a second viewing i will have much more fun.

The start wasn't bad it was just a little slow. The thing that pulled the story out of a slow spin was the characters. Wallace & Gromit were at there best, doing all the things you expect. The real star were the other character like Lady Tottington, who Wallace has some very special feelings for and the major villan for the movie is simply great cause you hate him the whole thime he is on screen. As I expect from any movie or even any of the Aardman TV shows there characters are simply excellent!

Wallace and Gromit starts a little slow but picks up to be one great film and without a Pixar film this year and the crap that is rolling out of Dreamworks then i would say that the Aardman Studios has a very very good chance of a gold statue come Oscar time!! This is simply a great start to the new season of films.
